You get to go to a local bar or to a painting studio, hang out with all your best friends, and create a masterpiece. ![]() ![]() You get to paint with your friendsĪt its core, paint night is a creative way to hang out with your friends. Well, good news is we’re here to explain it all to you. Sure you’ve seen the photos on Facebook of all your friends holding up identical paintings, clutching wine glasses in their hands, but you’ve probably asked yourself, first, why didn’t I get invited? And also, what are they doing? Even if you think you know what paint night is about, we bet you don’t know that there are many different types of paint night out there, or that some studios let you pick your own painting medium. Start small and gradually increase the amount of water you add, so you won’t end up needing more paint.Ībstract shapes and lines, favorite quotes, succulents, flowers, cool stuff on Pinterest, all those fun thoughts in your pretty head. For more saturated colors use less water. Try out different combinations on a test sheet first. Mixing contrasting (opposite) colors will make brown/black. Remember your color wheel (or Google it)! Red+yellow=orange. I like ceramic dishes, but sometimes empty plastic packaging (like a Thai food take out lid) can be even better.īlick, Michaels, Amazon, Jerry’s Artarama Mixing tray + water cup A tray with a few wells/sections is nice so the colors stay separated. Michaels has inexpensive sets that work well and IKEA kids brushes actually work amazingly well for watercolor. Pick ones that feel like a good makeup brush might feel on your skin. You can go cheap, just make sure they are smooth and not so cheap that little bristles will fall off into your paint. The colors are incredibly vivd and it's the must fun thing ever to play with them.īrushes I prefer synthetic brushes, partly because I'm picky about not using animal products, but also because they work so well with watercolor. Martin’s and it’s worth every penny if you want to delve into this medium. The kind I buy is Winsor & Newton Cotman and there are tons of other nice brands. Watercolor paint I love using watercolor paint in tubes bc it’s easy to get saturated (deeper) colors. If the paper is not stretched it may warp a bit, so try not to paint with too much water at once. I like working on cold-press because the paint seems to flow more and get absorbed nicely. You can choose cold-press (more texture) or hot-press (smooth).
